Stay dryLeak Repair & Flashing
We track the water to its source, whether flashing, crown, cap or porous brick, then fix that, not just the stain.
- Step and counter flashing
- Crickets behind wide chimneys
- Water testing
North Carolina chimneys don't get a break. Sticky summers soak the brick, tropical storm remnants drive rain sideways into the flashing, and a winter ice storm can glaze a crown solid overnight. In the Furniture City's older neighborhoods, many chimneys were laid up a century ago. Our team on Starr Dr keeps them dry, sound and safe, and we answer the phone any time, day or night.

Brick ranches in Archdale, split-levels near Oak Hollow, early-1900s homes in Emerywood. We take care of them all.
Stay dryWe track the water to its source, whether flashing, crown, cap or porous brick, then fix that, not just the stain.
BreathableFlaking brick replaced and the stack treated with a vapor-permeable repellent, so moisture can leave but rain can't soak in.
After iceCracked or heaved crowns rebuilt with a proper overhang and drip edge, and bent caps replaced after ice and fallen limbs.
Old homesShallow coal-era fireboxes, soft old brick and lime mortar, handled with materials that suit their age.
Safe flueStainless liners for cracked or unlined flues, and gas or wood inserts set up with correct venting.
Day or nightNeat, HEPA-clean sweeps, inspections when you buy or sell, and a technician available any hour.
When tropical systems pass through, wind pushes rain past old flashing that's fine in a normal shower.
Old, porous brick soaks up water like a sponge, then releases it inside the walls and attic.
An open flue collects rain, leaves and pine needles, and rusts the damper shut.
Humid air mixes with old soot every summer. That smell usually means moisture is getting in somewhere.
The Triad gets more freezing rain than real snow. Here's how to handle your chimney once the ice lets go.
Glazed shingles are treacherous. Look from the ground first, with binoculars if you have them.
Fallen branches often bend caps or knock bricks loose. Note anything that looks off.
If the cap is crushed or the top looks damaged, don't light up until it's checked.
We check the crown, cap and flue, photograph the damage and fix it before the next freeze.

Emerywood, Johnson Street and the neighborhoods around downtown grew up with the furniture industry. Their chimneys are handsome, and they come with quirks.
Built for coal grates, many are too shallow for big wood fires and smoke when overloaded.
Modern hard mortar can crack old brick. We repoint with softer mixes that move with it.
Many early flues have no liner, or have clay tiles that cracked long ago. A stainless liner fixes it.
Matched brick, tinted mortar and period-appropriate caps keep the house looking like itself.

Yes. Our phone is answered around the clock, weekends and holidays too. Water pouring in during a storm, smoke backing into the house or a limb on the chimney all get a fast response. For fire or a carbon monoxide alarm, get outside and call 911 first.
Heavy, wind-driven rain gets past flashing and crowns that hold up fine in light showers. Worn counter-flashing and a crown without a drip edge are the usual suspects.
For porous older brick in our humid climate, usually yes. We use a breathable repellent made for masonry, never a paint or sealer that traps moisture inside.
Fairly. Water gets into the crack, freezes and widens it, then reaches the brick and flue below. Sealing small cracks early beats rebuilding the whole crown later.
Small fires, carefully. Many early fireboxes were built for coal. If it smokes, we can check the dimensions and suggest a liner, a smoke guard or an insert.
Humid air reacts with soot and moisture in the chimney. A sweep, a cap and a tight damper usually take care of it.
